Step 1: Switch to a Modded Server Type
Before installing modpacks, ensure your server is running a modded server type (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, or Quilt).
Supported Loaders:
- Forge - Most popular, 240,000+ mods available
- Fabric - Lightweight and modern
- NeoForge - Modern Forge fork (MC 1.20.5+)
- Quilt - Enhanced Fabric alternative
Note: If you're on Paper, Purpur, Spigot, or Vanilla, you'll need to switch server types first. See our guide on "Switching Between Server Types".
Step 2: Access the Plugin & Mod Marketplace
The marketplace is built directly into your server control panel.
- Log in to your Pelican Panel at
panel.ocnetworks.co.uk - Select your Minecraft server from the server list
- In the left sidebar under "Management", click Marketplace
- Click the Modpacks tab at the top
💡 Tip: The marketplace automatically detects your server type and shows compatible modpacks for your loader (Forge, Fabric, etc.)
Step 3: Browse and Search Modpacks
The modpacks tab displays popular and trending modpacks from Modrinth.

- Select your desired modpack version from the dropdown (e.g., "Better Minecraft 1.20.1 v8.5")
- Click the orange 📦 Install button
- Confirm the installation when prompted
⚠️ Important: Installing a modpack will stop your server, download all mods, and apply configuration. This usually takes 2-5 minutes depending on modpack size.
What Happens During Installation:
- ✅ Server is automatically stopped
- ✅ Modpack file (.mrpack) is downloaded from Modrinth
- ✅ All individual mod files are extracted and downloaded
- ✅ Mods are uploaded to your server's
/modsfolder via SFTP - ✅ Configuration files and overrides are applied
- ✅ Server variables are updated with modpack info
- ✅ Server is ready to start (you can start it manually when ready)
Step 5: Start Your Server and Connect
After installation completes:
- Go to the Console tab in your control panel
- Click the green Start button
- Wait for the server to fully start (watch console for "Done!" message)
- Connect with your Minecraft client that has the same mods installed
🚨 Client-Side Mods Required!
You MUST install the same modpack on your Minecraft client to connect. Download the modpack from Modrinth and install it using a launcher like CurseForge, ATLauncher, or Prism Launcher.
Switching Between Modpacks
You can switch to a different modpack anytime without reinstalling your server:
- Go back to Marketplace → Modpacks
- Click 🗑️ Uninstall on your currently installed modpack (shown at the top)
- Search for and install a new modpack
- Start your server with the new modpack
💡 Pro Tip: Your world saves are preserved when switching modpacks. However, blocks/items from removed mods will be deleted from your world.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
❌ "Installation Failed" Error
Cause: Network timeout or invalid modpack version
Solution: Try installing again, or select a different modpack version. Check the marketplace for error messages.
❌ Server Won't Start After Installation
Cause: Insufficient RAM or incompatible mods
Solution: Check console for error messages. Large modpacks need 6-8GB+ RAM. Upgrade your plan or choose a lighter modpack.
❌ Can't Connect to Server
Cause: Client and server mod mismatch
Solution: Ensure you installed the EXACT same modpack version on your client. Download from Modrinth and use a proper launcher.
